Dear Dr Basharat,

It would be best to consult a builder in your area, as to a recommendation of whether block or brick would be better for your home.
As a Chicago realtor, my personal preference is brick; however, if installed correctly, block can be a viable lower cost alternative.
There are many factors such as cost, appearance and local weather that should be taken into consideration and a local builder can help you make the best decision for your area and property type.
Thank you for visiting my blog and please let me know if you have any additional real estate related questions.

Best Regards,

John

we thought the many leaks a few days after a rain event were a result of a roof problem.had a new roof installed (10,000sq ft)on our church.water was pouring down inside the windows on the west wall of the gym and the upper parts of all the walls.i never heard of split-faced block before,i do now.our first reaction was to seal outside with a good sealer and insulate the interior but after reading your reports,we felt that a lot of moisture would be trapped in the block.my solution to the whole problem(would treasure your input)is apply purlins to outside of the walls using stainless tapcon fasteners and side the building with eco-ficient r panels(mbci.com/insulatedrpanel-wall.html)or equivalent.we would leave the bottom and sides open for air circulation to dry out the block and run de-humidifires on the inside as suggested.the building is 16 yrs old,we have to do something stop the leaking and insulate these walls.we are open to any ideas.thank you. steve. trustee
